I have blogged before about how Choose Civility and its bumper stickers probably define Howard County better than anything else defines us. This week the HoCo Library celebrates the Choose Civility campaign with a variety of events. I will be at the Symposium on Thursday at the Miller Library signing up folks for the Friends of Library. Hope to see you all there. Here is the list of the week's activities: |
Would It Kill You to Be More Civil?
Join NPR journalist Korva Coleman for a lively and timely dialogue about civility in public discourse, featuring The Baltimore Sun's Editorial Editor Andrew Green; David Frum, a contributing editor at Newsweek and The Daily Beast, CNN contributor, and author of the new novel, Patriots; and bestselling author Henry Alford. With the election campaign in full swing, panelists will address the declining civility in America in recent years in both the public arena and personal interactions. Details.

P.S.
I received the following information from David Gertler:
Tuesday,
Oct 16th, 7pm at the GlenMar Church on New Cut Road - STEM Career
Night. Come out and talk to Howard County residents who live and work
in the area. They will talk about their careers in math, science,
engineering and related disciplines. The talk is aimed at students and
parents to help our kids become more aware of the multitude of career
choices in today's economy (and local geography).
Sunday,
Oct 21st from 1pm - 2:30pm at the Elkridge Public Library and 3pm - 4pm
at the Glenwood Public Library will be FREE homework help in math and
science classes for Howard County students.
More details are on my website, VoteGertler.com
and we're requesting people register (especially for the Homework Help
sessions, so we have enough parent volunteers) by sending an email to STEM@votegertler.com.
P.S.1
Speaking of Board of Education candidate David Gertler, the Choose Civility's bumper sticker has become so associated with HoCo that he has imitated the bumper sticker for his campaign sticker.
