Beans and Burgundy: A work in progress

Having read the blogs on the new Beans and Burgundy in Ellicott City I was excited to see more about this new establishment.  Route 40 has been offering so many new establishments that it is hard to keep up.  HowChow has done a nice job informing us of the new places with many of them having an ethnic flair.

One of the things I love about Howard County is how we mix our ethnic foods.  Beans and Burgundy is a place with a French sounding name and drinks, Korean pastries and foods and American pop music on the sound system.  Tell me what other suburban community you can get all that in! The morning we choose to go there it was a brutally cold morning and it seemed as if the place was going to take a while to warm up.  As you can see modern look of the place was very appealing and not at all what you would expect by its location in a small shopping strip down a ways on Route 40.

The first thing you notice when you walk in are the pastries and desserts in the showcase by the door. Across from this showcase was a nice assortment of Korean pastries that you find in the other Korean bakeries along Route 40.  I have become addicted to the pastries with the custard fillings and the sweet pizza bread sticks.
It was a little confusing to determine the ordering process for a breakfast meal.  Mostly breakfast wraps and omelettes.  The kitchen that day seemed to be in a training mode and slow to have the food ready.  It was set in a pickup area and I was expecting a staff person to bring it to our table because they gave us a number to take to our table.  Seeing one of our dishes setting out ready and no one moving to pick it up I decided to go over and get it before it got cold.

The turkey omelette that I ordered is above.  Not bad and the potatoes were a nice side.  The next time I will be a little more adventurous and try one of the dishes of Korean beef  bulgogi.  They have one omelette and one wrap with the beef.
Other then dealing with some growing pains of starting this restaurant that still need to be worked out it seems little another welcome place for breakfast in our County.  Heaven knows we could use more places for breakfast.

P.S.
To find the place look for the Dunkin Donuts at one end of the shopping strip right before the light for Greenway Drive on the right.  9469 Baltimore National Pike Ellicott City, MD 21042.

The only thing I've ever ordered there is the bulgogi bibimbop. I love it. And I really like Bean & Burgundy. It's an unlike-any-other-space place in Hoco. I often go and work there for hours. And I like to meet up with friends there. I also think it's a great spot for coworking.

See you around. Perhaps at Bean & Burgundy.
