Next Saturday at the Miller Branch from 1-5 pm the Library's Choose Civility program is presenting a program called The Human Library. From their website:
"The Human Library™ is an international initiative designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. It’s a place where real people are on loan to readers, and a place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered. As in a traditional library, visitors to the Human Library can choose Books from a range of titles. But at the Human Library, Books are people, and the reading is a conversation! Read a Living Book and learn about a different culture or community through questions and conversations.
Howard County Library System’s Human Library will feature a diverse array of Human Books, including:
Immigrants from many different countries
Members of the Muslim faith
A member of the Sikh faith
A person of the Christian faith and survivor of suicide loss
People who have been targeted by racism
A Parsee person of the Zoroastrian faith
A person who is transgender
A veteran who has PTSD
A person who has an invisible illness
A survivor of genocide
A person with bipolar 1 disorder
The event runs from 1 to 5 pm. Sign up on a first come, first served basis beginning at 1 pm on Saturday, March 11.
The Human Library is designed to be a welcoming, inclusive, non-partisan space with no political agenda."

Wow this is so awesome. I have never heard of this but am really interested in attending. Howard County is really making a difference in enriching the lives of its residents. I really can't think of a better county.
