Cycle 2 Health ventures afield

Last year the Howard County Office on Aging launched the Cycle to Health program to encourage the 50+ crowd to stay physically active.  It recognizes that Baby Boomers may not be part of the "bingo crowd" of previous senior generations.
In the Cycle 2 Health's first year the rides for this over 50 biking group stuck with local roads for its bike rides.  This year the group has grown considerably and has decided to do some rides on trails in a wider geographic area.  The first of these rides took place on the Mt. Vernon trail from Alexandria to Mt. Vernon.  Part of the group even added a section over the Wilson Bridge to National Harbor.

This Summer's cooler temperatures made the 15 mile round trip very pleasurable.   The habitat along the trail gave many nice views of the Potomac River and the marshes along the way.

With the bike ride over many of the bikers headed over to an Alexandria restaurant for lunch and the perfect way to socialize after the ride.

Cycle 2 Health is always looking for additional riders to join the group.  The group includes everyone from beginning riders to experienced long time riders.  The rides are designed to accommodate the skill levels of everyone.

P.S.

Vandals have apparently struck to knock over all the signs BG&E put up to highlight their efforts to create a wildlife habitat near Lake Elkhorn.
