Zipping Virginia
For the past couple of years I have seen zip lines become more popular as a recreational activity. I often said that someday I wanted to try a zip line. A few months ago a Groupon for a zip line in Virginia sounded like the perfect opportunity to try. It described a series of 8 zip lines down a mountain in the Shenandoah River State Park near Front Royal, Virginia.
Any concern about zipping over the tree tops was quickly allayed by the manner in which everyone was securely fastened to the ropes by two hooks.
Anyone over the age of ten and weighing under 280 pounds is allowed to zip. Our group had a family of 5 that included the grandmother.
In addition to the zips we had a couple of rope bridges to cross and one rappel down from a platform.
The last zip was over a third of a mile and was the most memorable with the zip speed reaching over 40 miles an hour. This You Tube video gives you a sense of what it is like.
P.S.
