Columbia Bike Sharing meeting tonight

For those of us who almost daily use our wonderful pathways I wanted to highlight two important ways to give back to the Columbia Association and improve our pathway system.  Here are two ways to do that.  One way starts tonight.

From the Columbia Association:
"The Bike Share Feasibility Public Meeting is today, May 1 at the Owen Brown Community Association (6800 Cradlerock Way in Columbia) from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The meeting will present information on the Bike Share Feasibility Study and to gather public input on possible program goals of a bike share in Howard County, as well as potential station locations. RSVP is requested, but not required. More information on the meeting can be found at www.howardcountybikeshare.com.
   Project Description

"Following on its commitment to becoming more bike friendly and making continued bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure investments, Howard County, through the Department of Planning and Zoning, as part of a joint effort with Columbia Association, was awarded Maryland Bikeshare Program Grant to conduct a study of the feasibility for implementing a bike share program.

Toole Design Group and Foursquare ITP make up the consultant team for this exploration of a public bike share program in Howard County. The public input phase of the project is scheduled for May 1st 2014, and the results of this study will be presented in late Summer 2014.

The full exploration of bike share feasibility will:
Determine the viability of implementing a bike share program in Howard County
Engage local and regional stakeholders
Engage the public on system goals, pricing and service area
Define the size, service area and phasing, based on GIS data and public engagement
Research and recommend an appropriate business plan for Howard County
Define the goals of the system
Forecast ridership costs and revenues for a potential system
Establish siting parameters for stations
Identify potential challenges for implementing a bike share program
Provide performance measures to understand the impact of a bike share program"

P.S.
Also from CA:
"We need your help to improve CA Pathways
A special thank you to everyone who already registered for the bicycle and pedestrian counts. However, we are still in great need of volunteers - particularly for May 28, 29, 31 and June 6 - and only a few days remain before the registration deadline of this Sunday, May 4, so click here to volunteer.

Please consider volunteering. This program is important for CA to have a better understanding of how many people who use the pathway system. The data gathered this year will be used as baseline data for future pathway counts, which will measure pathway usage trends. This will also be used to verify and validate pathway investments.

For more information or help registering, please contact Scott Templin at 410-715-3166 orScott.Templin@ColumbiaAssociation.org. "
