A few thoughts run through my mind today as we all reflect on that terrible day 10 years ago.
The first is my memory of watching television that day at work and seeing what I though were birds flying around the building and then realizing that they couldn't be something as small as a bird and then realizing I was watching people jumping from the building. One of the most compelling aspects of the stories coming out of the stories on 9/11 with the World Trade Towers was the fact that many of the jumpers from the building held on to each other’s hands as they fell. Even in this emotionally devastating time people had some comfort in holding another persons hand.
I listened to some of the last calls people made from the Towers on 9/11 to family members when they just wanted to say good-bye. Their last words were always “I love you.” For most of us we will never know the last words we will say to our loved ones and that is why we should always say that when we leave them because we never know when it might be the last words we will ever say to them.
The final reflection on what impact 9/11 had on people was a recording that NPR did in one of it’s Story Corps segments that explained the impact that 9/11 had on them.
